About the Instructor:

Ariel de Ment is an educator, actor, stunt performer and coordinator. Over the last decade she has been teaching combat at colleges on the east and west coast as well as coordinating fights and stunts for various films and theatre projects.

Before Ariel was sword fighting her way across the country, she started her career performing with the Atlantic City Ballet as a soloist and guest artist with several companies. She later went back to school training in places like NYU and Julliard where she studied acting and music. As her acting career progressed she performed with a variety of both national and international touring shows such as “Cats”, “Carmen”, and “Hairspray”. Soon Ariel found a different use for her physical talents, taking up sword fighting and martial arts. Her training included historical sword fighting, eastern weaponry, paramilitary, Wing Chan, Shaolin Kung fu and stunt work. This leading her to perform Off-Broadway portraying the historical opera and sword virtuoso, Julie d’Aubigny, winning the Best Actress award in the Fresh Fruit Festival in New York.

Ariel has been no stranger to teaching. During her dance career, she became the Assistant Director of the Atlantic City Ballet. She directed several ballets including “Nutcracker”, “A Midsummer’s Nights Dream”, and “Dracula”. When she began teaching theatrical combat at NYU Tish she found herself fight coordinating several productions such as “Octomoor”, “Julius Caesar”, “Romeo and Juliet” and at various Renaissance Faires.

Since moving to LA she’s taught at Stella Adler and is currently teaching at American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She offers custom combat workshops and is stunt/fight coordinating for the theatre and film sets. You can see Ariel perform weekly as one of the pro-wrestlers on WOW - Women of Westling on CBS under the name Katarina Jinx. And whenever Ariel has a spare moment she can be found hanging around a VO booth lending her voice and acting talents to video games and animated productions.
